Volunteer Trail Crew
Give back to the trails you love by joining our Volunteer Trail Crew!
There are three levels of commitment for being a Trail Crew member.
Not ready for the commitment? Check out our one-off volunteer events, head here.
Adopt-a-Trail
SMT manages more than 70 miles of singletrack around Salida. Help us maintain the trail network by becoming a volunteer Trail Steward! Trail Stewards work independently, on their own time, on a trail of their choosing. No experience required. SMT provides training and tools.
Crew Lead
Want to learn more skills, teach trail maintenance to others, and help us get more work done on public lands? Then become a Crew Lead! Crew Leads are certified to oversee small volunteer groups; the more Crew Leads we have, the more volunteers we can engage, and the more work we can get done!
NEW - Strike Team
The goal of the Strike Team is to act as a highly trained crew who can assist SMT staff in more technical and complicated maintenance projects. We’re looking for a once-per-month commitment (attend 5 out of 10 sessions from June – October) to ensure team members get regular practice to develop their skills, and to ensure we get a lot of work done in a timely fashion.
NEW - Adopt-a-Trail (Business)
Business Trail Adopters play an essential role in the protection and enhancement of trails and trailheads in several around Salida. Businesses adopt a specific trail or section of trail, and are responsible for making sure that maintenance is organized and completed on their trail at least twice a year, as well as reporting completed work, trail conditions, and concerns. SMT asks that each business assigns one or multiple “leads”, who will take our Crew Lead training and act as the main coordinator(s) for the group.
