SMT’s newest trail called “Hooligan” which starts at the intersection of Uncle Nasty and Pauli and descends to a junction with Sand Dunes is temporarily closed in order to control damage. Hooligan was completed just before Thanksgiving but was not officially opened due to concerns about dry and loose trail conditions. Nonetheless, riders and hikers have been using the trail and as a result it is becoming damaged. Until there is significant moisture the closure will remain in effect. Salida Mountain Trails will monitor the trail and reopen it once it’s determined that conditions have improved.
