SMT is looking for new board members to help us fulfill our mission and guide our organization. If you want to take on a leadership role stewarding singletrack around Salida, we want to hear from you!
Board members sit on one of two volunteer committees (trails, and fundraising/events) and/or provide specialized administrative support (eg. finance, law, tech). We’re a small nonprofit, so we rely on a “working” vs. ”advisory” board to make progress.
Skills we’re looking for
Anyone committed to trail development and maintenance is welcome to apply for a seat on the board, or to join a committee. In particular, we could use folks with the following skills/experiences:
- Fundraising
- Nonprofit administration/development
- Event planning
- Trail development/maintenance
- Volunteer management
- Finance
- Grant writing
- Marketing/PR
- Community building
Board responsibilities
- Board members serve two-year terms.
- Attend 8+ monthly board meetings per year, and come prepared having read the agenda. Meetings are held the 4th Wednesday each month, from 6-8pm.
- Read your email and respond as appropriate.
- Sit on an SMT committee
- Trails — Plan and prioritize trail projects. Monthly meetings
- Fundraising/Events — Plan SMT’s annual membership party, Salida Bike Fest, and the Banana Belt MTB race. Help with sponsorship/membership/grants. Ad hoc meetings.
- Attend major SMT events and participate in “friendraising”
- Represent SMT in a positive light to residents and visitors
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest, financial or otherwise, to the SMT board
- Do not use your role for personal financial gain
How to apply
Fill out this brief application (it should only take a few minutes) and we’ll be in touch if we think you’d be a good fit. From there, prospective board members will meet with current board members and attend a few meetings before the full board votes in new members this summer.
We’re aiming to add at least 2 board members Please apply by end of day Friday, July 15. We’ll review applications as they come in.
APPLY TO JOIN THE BOARD
_________
Join a volunteer committee
Not ready to commit to a board seat? Join one of our 2 committees instead. Committee members are more involved than your average volunteers, but have less responsibility than board members.
To join a committee, fill out this form and we’ll get back to you.
About the committees
- Trails — This committee meets monthly to prioritize routine maintenance and plan big projects, including new trails and improvements to existing ones. Members may lead projects ranging from reroutes to new signs.
- Fundraising/Events — Often called a “development” committee, this group works on everything related to fundraising and community building. That includes coordinating SMT’s annual member party, recruiting business sponsors, and planning events like the Banana Belt mountain bike race and Salida Bike Fest. Committee members meet as necessary, and work on projects of their choosing.
