I’m sure most all of you are aware of the widespread damage sustained on many of the Arkansas Hills Trails from last week’s storm. We need your help this Saturday to begin repair work. We will focus on our most used close-in trails: North Backbone, Backbone, Frontside and possibly a few others depending upon number of volunteers. Most of the work will be clearing rockfall from the trail and addressing trail blowouts at numerous arroyos and gulch crossings- mostly Mcleod work, rake, and shovel work.
We will be meeting at the F Street parking lot for a 9 am start, but please arrive a bit early to sign work waivers. Wear sturdy shoes/boots, appropriate clothes, work gloves, and bring water. Eye protection is also suggested. Salida Family Dentistry will be sponsoring our after-shindig lunch at their business location, and Soulcraft Beer will provide their awesome brews. Come prepared to work hard and enjoy good food and drink!
This is only the beginning of all the necessary work to repair our trails, and we will announce additional plans soon. As for other current efforts, a few small parties are working this week. Email us at salidamountaintrails@gmail.com if you are interested in helping in any mid-week efforts. The High School mountain biking team is working on Friday. We are coordinating with the city/county to get the Calco road and CR173 repaired.
Stay tuned and thanks for your help/interest!
