Trail Work: – Salida Mountain Trails’ monthly Shindig scheduled for Saturday, September 12 is cancelled and those efforts will be redirected to 2 different September events: September 12-13 – Vapor Trail 125 Mountain Bike Race – Saturday September 12, 10PM through Sunday,
September 13, 6PM. Our very own Vapor Trail 125 High Altitude Ultra-Marathon Mountain Bike Race needs volunteers. Proceeds from this event go directly to SMT! This is one of our biggest annual fundraisers, so please consider signing up for volunteer needs which include aid stations, course marking, sweep, and more. September 26-27 – SMT will again join efforts with the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) and the Forest Service to work on the new Cottonwood trail. VOC requests that volunteers pre-register ASAP so they can plan for tools, supplies, food, and camping.

Friday, September 18 – 5:00 p.m. – Salida Bike Fest Chainless Race – to benefit Salida Racing, the Salida High mountain bike team.
Saturday, September 19 – 11 a.m. – Banana Belt Mountain Bike Race – The old Banana Belt Mountain Bike Race is back! This single loop, approximately 26 mile cross country course involves a dirt road climb alongside Bear Creek and six miles of single track on the Rainbow Trail before returning to town. Race will start at 11 a.m. and awards and food will follow at Riverside Park. Also – Banana Belt Race volunteers are still needed. Contact salidaraces@cityofsalida.com for more information.
Sunday, September 20 – 7:00 a.m. – Annual Monarch Crest Crank Ride – The Monarch Crest Crank is the historic fundraiser for the Chaffee County Alliance Against Domestic Abuse (AADA) the most worthy of causes. They are seeking volunteers for Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 for set up and tear down for the post party at Riverside Park. Sunday, September 20 – Noon to 5:00 p.m. – Crest Crank After-Party – The Crest Crank after party is open to all and will be a great way to close out Bike Fest. Join us to enjoy delicious food, drinks, live music and fun with friends. There will also be an awesome silent auction and bike related art by some of Salida’s best local artists to support AADA.
On Going – A Big Shout Out to:
The Rivers Edge and Boathouse Cantina. Through their awesome 1% program for SMT, they have donated over $11,000 to SMT in 2015 (as of July) allowing us to build more trails! Please say thanks to owner Ray Kitson for supporting your trails when you see him.
The Chaffee County Running Club. While SMT donated volunteers, the CCRC donated $5,786 to Salida Mountain Trails from the proceeds of this spring’s Run Through Time marathon. Thanks CCRC!
